The theme of the HuRRI 2025 Resilience Series is: Water, the Driving Force of all Nature. This theme, from a quote attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci, embodies the essential role water plays in sustaining life and shaping the Earth's landscapes and ecosystems and influencing its weather.

Access to Clean Water is one of the National Academy of Engineering 14 grand challenges for the 21st century. Water security, having access to enough clean and affordable water and protecting against water-related disasters and pollution, is now taking center stage in shaping resilience and sustainability plans and policies at every level. This is true, not only for Texas, but elsewhere in the US and around the globe.

The HuRRI 2025 Resilience Series examines the strengths in our water systems and the threats that communities face in ensuring health and clean water supplies that meet the needs of all stakeholders including individuals, communities, municipal, industrial, and ecosystems. The series will bring together experts in shaping the conversation about water ensuring resilience and security of this life-sustaining substance. Discussions will revolve around water availability, water quality, accessibility and reliability with the goal of enhancing understanding of managing water resources via sustainable and resilient strategies that consider both present and future needs. Threats to water and water security will be examined from a resilience lens: meeting the increasing demand, reducing risks of pollution and over extraction, rehabilitation of aging infrastructure and strengthening conservation policies, and of course, planning for severe events and natural disasters that impact all water

The series will be held virtually in Fall 2025 and Spring 2025 on the third Friday of the month (except for March) from noon to 1:30 p.m. Speakers will present in a panel format with panel discussions and Q&A to follow.
